ParaNormal Toon Shader – Fully Light-Driven, Familiar Workflow, Cycles & Eevee

ParaNormal Toon Shader v0.6.0 – Reflections & other improvements!

A new update is now live on Blender Market. The biggest new features are reflections and polar coordinates, plus there are a number of other small improvements.

PNTS 0.6.0 is compatible with EEVEE & Cycles for Blender 3.6-4.1, and Cycles for Blender 4.2. (Adding EEVEE Next support is currently under review.)

  • NEW: Add Reflection node. Easily add real reflections, ideal for ballroom floors, mirrors, water, etc.
  • NEW: Polar Coordinates node. Maps X to the circumference around a circle, and Y to the distance from the center point. Also supports repeating and mirroring coordinates, making it easy to create circular patterns and kaleidoscopic effects.
  • NEW: Default Value utility node with three variants: Color, Unsigned float, and Normal. Blender node groups have built-in support for static defaults, but this allows defaulting to input from another node (e.g., for defaulting to an image map). (The last one was formerly Default Normal, which has been tweaked for consistency with the new Default Value nodes).
  • ParaNormal Curve Shader:
    • Added Back Shading Strength to give more control over shadow intensity.
    • Moved Overlay Normal & Overlay Normal Strength to the new Override panel, and renamed them accordingly.
  • ParaNormal Triplanar Shader: Moved Overlay Normal & Overlay Normal Strength to the new Override panel, and renamed them accordingly.
  • Shape Mask: Added outlines (and enhanced the UI with a panel).
  • Pixelate Coordinates: REMOVED. The built-in Voronoi Texture is a drop-in replacement, just turn Randomness down to zero.
  • Upgraded the Read Me & Change Log from dashes to REAL bullet points (exciting, I know).
  • Supports EEVEE & Cycles for Blender 3.6-4.1, and Cycles for Blender 4.2. (After further testing, older Blender versions seem to gracefully ignore new UI features like panels.)
